I see what you mean, they really downplay the severity of it all. You gotta love how furscience states your kid is no more likely to be a zoophile than non furries as if the appeal of their porn wasn't the animal traits.
Wasn't the rate of zoophilia in the fandom no less than 20%? That's a lot of furries and definitely more than the amount of people that aren't furries. The statement in there is clearly political in tone, so you know their bias is showing through.
Why are the people who publish their studies with cartoon animals on the cover taken seriously? I feel like this fandom in general takes itself too seriously because there is always this mention of "furry identity" or "coming out as a furry". It can't be healthy to believe liking anthro animals is an integral part of one's being.
Honestly I wish I had an answer. I've spent years wondering why furries want to defend their fandom so much instead of working towards fighting against what's wrong with it. It's not like they have to compromise their own warped sexual interests to do this, unless they're pedophiles anyway. Plenty of furries know about fetishes far too morbid for them to be able to condone, but would rather protect the false image of the fandom instead of working together to try to maintain some semblance of sanity among mutants.
For instance, a furry who is into something potentially morbid like vore has a
choice of how far he wants to indulge this even if he can't control himself away from masturbating to it as a whole. If he commits himself to making the right choice, he can shepherd his tastes in a direction which makes him more human. But instead of this common sense reasoning, you get the drum beating about how they're not supposed to "kinkshame" and the constant enabling of
"It's okay to do snuff in fact I will constantly encourage you to do so and inject this interpretation whenever you leave it ambiguous" stuff that happens in the fandom. So instead of shepherding his tastes in the right direction, he pushes it further down a much darker path and then some, until he's into stuff so fucked up that you can hardly bear to look at him anymore. This is honestly a huge part of how everything just gets worse and worse, they have a little bondage or rubberfaggotry but eventually get full swing into the
"Sealed in a shrunken rubber suit for life under constant mind control and all limbs amputated" shit.
For some reason furries have some kind of intense loyalty to "the fandom" that defies reason and will rather pretend and lie to you that the fandom can't possibly be this bad, while they are the ones living in it and getting firsthand experiences of this stuff. They shouldn't be running cover for all this shit even if they're slightly involved in it, but some irrational impulse seems to compel them to take the stupidest possible choice here. So I honestly have no clue why they're like this outside of irrational social impulses to conform with the twisted culture of the furry fandom, everyone copying the stupidity of everyone else instead of daring to be clever about their circumstances.
