Cartoon Industry thread - Showcasing the Spergery of the Animation Industry

Aw, what? That film was fun as hell. The plot is basically grindhouse Josie and the Pussycats, and the transphobic twist ending cracks me up, having lived through the last two decades and all. I never could figure out how you can dream up such a gonzo movie as that and then go on to get so squeamish as a Serious Film Critic. Ebert was weird.
No he was just the prototype form of these useless modern culture critics who engage in behavior just as bad or worse that what they claim to fight against.

Case in point, when he encouraged his readers to write harassing letters to the lead actress from Friday the 13th because that movie was misogynistic.

After the giant failure of Elio and the success of Kpop Demon Hunters I wouldn't be surprised if Pixar makes the Magical Girl movie.
They will fill it full of giant gorilla-bodied sassy black lesbians and it'll bomb and they'll cry about how new IPs never get noticed so *of course* they have to keep shitting out remakes.

Seams we're getting another Indie pilot soon, this time by Breana Navickas
Slop art style, "Lord Chaos", the stereotypical magical girl, emo looking elf vampire with sword, the main character is probably black.
Slop. Fucking slop.

EDIT: Just read the synopsis. This is Nigger Twilight.

Kpop Demon Hunters is more aesthetically appealing.

Time and time again, western animators fail to understand what makes animation appealing (especially anime!), even though they claim to love it so much.

I mean, look at this...

The art won't be appealing. The story certainly won't be appealing. And everything that could make it appealing would no doubt be deemed "problematic."

Those 2000s "How to Draw Anime" books of varying quality have been a disaster for the aspiring artist because it's proving time and time again that way too many of them have never left that phase.
I think it began even before the 2000's, but those years have made the issue surface way more majorly. I personally don't like the anime style, outside of exceptions - but what attracts people to it, especially those who we're discussing in this thread?

It's very easy for autists to "read", much more so than actual human faces, obviously, but also easier than other styles that aren't as consistent and universal with expressions.

Besides nostalgia? The Japanese still believe in beauty standards, and the character designs reflect that (and not because they still adore the Caucasian look lmao). They still study anatomy and (proper) color theory, so it's appealing to the eye and no matter what SJWs have tried to do, people still gravitate towards beauty. The large eyes aren't just a white person thing, the eyes are amongst the most expressive part of the body and that reflects beautifully in art.

That's why this choice in taking away irises in CGI models has been giving me the ick, because while that works fine in 2D, 3D is more restrictive because of how easily it can enter into the uncanny valley with human models. I think I can see why they're doing it, to let the audience know they're essentially watching a cartoon, the problem is we have been conditioned for decades at this point that as 3D improves, the more realistic it can get, which we were watching happen in real time. But now all of a sudden you don't want to do that with human characters but everything else can still look realistic? It's fucking weird and I don't like it.

Also the anime look rarely transitions well to 3D without some tweaking in the eye and face shapes, and even then, you rarely can do the traditional anime expressions well unless it's stylized. It's why I find Lupin III: The First is one of the very few times a CGI anime worked because the character designs have rarely changed from the '71 anime, back when anime still implemented a lot of Western slapstick animation and color.

Do I need to rag on 3D Pokémon again? Because compare the original to 3D in how Ash moves and looks, and there's not even your typical anime reaction to be seen with this sequence.

For some reason, Western animators can't seem to understand this, or they just don't care anymore. It's really frustrating to see.

To add to everything above, what many people who aren't well-versed in art don't notice is that the "anime" family of art styles give you what you put into them. For the lower end of artists who see it as a shortcut to putting something appealing on the screen, you get ugly Tumblr art. For the top end of artists it gives you a lot of flexibility to push cues to your design goals (including realism) as needed, on top of having a lot of familiar patterns to communicate ideas to your audience.

Apparently Julia Kaye, the voice of Snapdragon in High Guardian Spice and former storyboard artist for Big City Greens and Jellystone, has started an Onlyfans account.
What is it with art chicks and thinking of "sex work" as no big deal? There was a Caleb Hammer episode about that recently, too.

Caleb: "Prostitution is a bit degrading, isn't it?"
Art chick: "So is living in grandma's basement."

Like, these are not equivalent.

Don't try to understand it. Selling yourself for money to strangers? Empowering, beautiful. Some guy telling you you have a nice smile? Ew, creepy. Get away from me you objectifying misogynist.

It'll make your head spin. I feel bad for younger folks who entered the dating pool after this kind of stuff became standard.

Pixar is released a teaser trailer for that beaver avatar movie.
I see they are still sticking with that GrubHub ad type art style 🙄
Not just Avatar, but The Wild Robot technically did this already. And better. Please make it stop.
Edit: Oh God.

Yeah Daniel Chong wrote and directed this. Fantastic.

This argument stems from "I AM THE OWNER OF MY OWN BODY/LIFE AND NO ONE CAN STOP ME!". Just replace this with: "I AM BEING A MASSIVE FAGGOT/SKANK!" and you'll understand.

Letting strangers have sex with you for money and nuking your brain chemistry seems a little bit higher on the degrading totem pole than just living with your family as an adult.

Being too lazy to move out of your grandmas house is not worse than being too lazy and stupid to resist becoming a human sex toy. Being a basement dweller never gave someone aids.
