Stargate Atlantis's 5th season sucked. Aside from a handful of gems it was a piece of shit.
I'm still bitter they devoted so much time to McKay and Keller instead of, you know, tying up loose ends.
Like Ford. Niggas still stuck in the Pegasus galaxy.

Yeah S5 of Atlantis is pretty bad and has possibly the worst episode in the series. The global warming episode with Bill Nye and Neil deGrasse Tyson. I never liked Dr Keller, she seemed too young and too unsure of herself to somehow make the chief medical officer. Compare her to Dr Fraiser and Carson.

I also liked SGU and I'm glad they toned down the angst after the first season. The soundtrack that Goldsmith made was brilliant and I wish he released the OST before he died.

Idk if I just got mentally poisoned by online haters but I absolutely hated the first couple episodes of SGU. SG-1 was a bit too flippant and low-stakes especially towards the end but SGU went way too hard on the drama way too early. It seemed like every single character had beef with another character almost from the moment they were introduced. By and large these aren't random people they're trained military and scientists expecting to step into the unknown on some level. There should be some modicum of professionalism. But less than 24 hours in they're already mutinying and going awol in a completely unknown environment. I didn't get much further tbf because the discs I had were scratched but it was not a good start from what I saw.
The first half of the first season of SGU was boring. The Stargate people saw the acclaim that Battlestar Galactica was getting so they went "Ooh, we can do dark and serious too!" But Stargate spent fifteen seasons as a fun action show, and trying to turn it into something gritty just didn't work. They weren't able to make it compelling the way that BSG was, so it was just dull. And I one hundred percent agree on the lack of professionalism among the characters. They wanted the sort of conflict that made Galactica so great, but it didn't fit with the setting - everyone there (apart from Eli the slacker who won a game and got a wildly unrealistic prize and the senator's daughter) should have been pretty well vetted in order to be assigned to the TOP SECRET project. These were not a bunch of lance corporals ball-tapping each other while they skate work details, they're supposed to be the best of the best, along with the experienced scientists who were running the project.

It got better in the second half of the first season, and it started hitting its stride in the second season, when the writers realized that their strengths were in making fun action shows. Adding in the Leucian Alliance characters and plotline was the turning point, and the show started finding a balance between the fun and the seriousness. Battlestargate was a misstep, but SGU could have had a great run as 'Stargate but with gravitas'.

They took those lessons and made Dark Matter, which was fun as well as serious because it wasn't aiming to be a Battlestar-alike the way that SGU started off.

Keller wasn't a bad choice, but she was jammed down our throats in season 5. I get having her be the focus of season 4s first half. She's new and they want to have her shine, but the insane focus on her and Rodney as a power couple was insufferable. Honestly she and ronin were better as a couple.
But yeah, the bill nye episode sucked balls.

Yes. There were a lot of good episodes in SG-1. I re-watched Universe, and it held up better than I remember. SG-1 and Atlantis had a different chemistry to how the show was written. I remember being disappointed in Universe when it first aired. It felt too much like a ripoff of Battlestar Galactica '04. If I watch Universe as just another scifi and not part of Stargate then it's not too bad.

Pretty much all the seasons of SG-1 were good. Season 4 of Atlantis could have been better. I remember feeling like every episode used the same warehouse set and the same Atlantis city sets. Atlantis seasons 1 to 3 and 5 were really good though. The Janis Device two parter and the alternate Daedalus time jumping episodes were probably my favourites. I never understood why they didn't just use Avenger from SG-1 (the malware that makes Stargates not work by uploading a bogus correlative update) and the Janis Device at the same time. That way the gates would be disabled so they wouldn't turn into nuclear bombs while the Wraith were stranded or dying when they tried to enter hyperspace. It really donned on me that the technology from the show is so over power while all the solutions they come up with are circa 1960 era technology.

Wonder how stargate would have fared if it stayed on showtime.
It would have remained "TNG light with MP5s".

McKay was at his best when he was a guest star on SG-1 and SGU. On Atlantis he slowly turned into a caricature of the character (he gets angry, people make fun of him, then he saves the day at the last second).
As for Ford, they did him dirty. The second season was like a soft reboot of the show as they got a permanent link with Earth via the Daedalus and they replaced Ford with a lame copy of Teal'c (Ronon).

Big fan even if technically I've only seen it all once. It's just such a huge time investment and every attempt to rewatch fails. Oh well, maybe one day.

I've been watching an episode per or two per day. It's been a good pace, usually doing it while working on something, making dinner, or whatnot.

It' funny how none of the actors really know how to react to 3D CG backgrounds, which seem to become more common in Season 4. Reminds me of Lexx.

Would you agree to be a host to a Tok'Ra?
I think the SGC did a disservice by not offering more hosts. It would have changed the Tok'Ra's for the better.

I'm quite fond of Stargate. Used to watch the movie on VHS as a kid, and always tried to catch it on TV. Rewatching it all now is a huge amount of work due to its length, but I still like it. Has that kinda low budget charme where most of the planets are just forests in Canada, which I enjoy along with the silly technobabble, and it had fun characters you actually like to see interact with each other.
Atlantis was more of that, which I liked. Had some silly plots and was otherwise mostly a rehash in terms of character archetypes, but for the most part I enjoyed said characters.
I tried getting into SGU, but the first few episodes were so off-putting to me. I never liked the Battlestar Galactica reboot and that era of gritty shakycam SciFi where every character is an asshole, everyone is constantly retarded and half the people are traitors one way or another. If the angst got turned down later, nice. Maybe I'll give it a try again, but I usually nope out after an episode or two. "Oh shit, we're in a new, high stress situation. Time to give the obviously psychopathic marine who has a constant Private Pyle 'I AM in a world of shit' face on his gun back!". And, fucking shakycam. Now I love Firefly, but I 100% blame it for bringing the space shakycam to TV series, leading to Shakycam: Galactica.
Still, maybe I should give it yet another try. Never seen Origins.

I have never seen seasons 9 and 10 of SG-1 and have only seen the first season of SGA.

Right now I am about five episodes into SG-1 season 9. I like it well enough. But it is very different. And this Ori stuff seems weak. The Tauri have so much power and the Replicators didn't last long.

These Ori need to pack it up before they get hurt. Show is definitely getting strange. Oh and Atlantis is neat.

Wait a fucking minute. Vala or whatever just got transported to the Ori galaxy and everyone is like "hohoho wonder what crazy hijinks she'll get up to before she comes back! Hahahaha!"

Dudes she is probably being mindraped and tortured immediately upon appearing. Why is everyone so unconcerned about the lady that just saved the galaxy? It doesn't matter if she is Claudia Black... but I will hear you out.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought they didn't know she was transported there, only speculated.

The way SGU ended was pretty sad, in that the final few episodes are really good, you can just taste the promise of a great third season, but nah. Shame.
It took too long for them to shit and get off the pot. SG-U had some serious "Star Trek" potential with some lovecraftian over tones. Exploring strange new worlds and meeting new civilizations and all that jam. But instead the entire first season was "lets fix the ship", and the second season was "Lets figure out how to get control of the ship".

Took too loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong. Episode 1, end up on ship. Its falling apart. Episode 2. Fix the ship. Episode 3. Get control of the ship. Episode 4, introduction of overall story arc. Boom. Bang. Bong. Done. It was booooooooooooooooooring the way they did it. Show runners were too high on their own farts, introducing on top of their excruciatingly long repair simulation, needlessly dense mellow drama and back stories that were barely relevant. Lots of wasted potential there.

Honestly SG-1 should have called it a day after they beat Anubis. The Ori ark was definitely forced and you can tell the show runners were only do it too cash in. It lacked the campy charm of earlier seasons.

On season 10 now. It is still alright and enjoyable. Atlantis on the other hand... I do like it. But it is really straining credulity to believe that the Atlantis expedition are SO FUCKING RECKLESS AND STUPID. YOU FUCKERS JUST NEED TO WAIT FOR AWAY TEAM 1 TO COME BACK AND REPORT BEFORE SENDING AWAY TEAM 2 OUT.

AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!

But I did enjoy seeing Richard Kind chew the scenery in that one episode. He saved what was otherwise a totally infuriating premise filled with staggering lapses in judgment. I can't wait to see what these retards do next.

I am running out of SG-1 episodes and there are still two seasons of Atlantis. Oh no...

Also did the Atlantis team really just betray the Replicators? So now both shows have done this. Shiiiiit. Bunch of assholes. Space assholes.

I mean it was probably the right call. Maybe? Sure is a bad look though.

You people are exceptional. I am talking about Stargate again.

Stargate Atlantis has become much more fun now that I have given up on the team being competent. Now the show is more like tuning in to watch what the idiots are going to fuck up this time. After the last episode in which the Atlantis expedition managed to betray the Replicators (two for two, nice job Tau'ri), we have Dr. Weirtarded trapped in another mindscape as the Replicators attempt to lower their collective IQ by assimilating her. Somehow it didn't work, but the episode was okay. And Richard Dean Anderson showed up for the first time in a while so that was cool. Thankfully after two episodes of Atlantis I can jump back to season ten of Stargate SG-1 and watch the writers raid medieval lore for just one more ride before the series ends.

The Ori stuff has been okay and Baal is okay... I guess. People seem to love him but I think they are just clinging to a lively actor. He died in a kiteboarding accident not too long ago, pretty sad. He seemed like a nice dude. Baal is an alright character and I like some of what they do with him, but the adventures of Ra were a lot more fun. Back when the show was a bit more menacing. Either way, I am still really enjoying season ten of SG-1 and season three of Atlantis, even with the latter's lack of intelligence.

Stargate has a ton of cameos. I really enjoy that. Looking forward to when they finally get that star drive on Atlantis up and running. Maybe they will achieve ramming speed. Also enjoying watching Dr. Weir slowly become Hitler and Dr. Beckett become Mengele is a secret joy of mine.

The Switch 2 Nintendo Direct is in an hour. Happy Liberation Day!

Go fuck yourselves. Especially you.
